School mission
Welcome to Andrew Langston Middle School, a place where we honor the pioneering spirit of Andrew Langston, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Monroe County Broadcasting Company and WDKX-FM. Mr. Langston’s dedication and perseverance are evident in his six-year journey to navigate the complexities of FCC regulations and secure FM frequency 103.9 for his radio station.
We at Andrew Langston Middle School are excited to serve students in our new home at the Douglass campus. Our goal is to offer students a well-rounded educational experience. Inside the classroom, Expeditionary Learning drives our appreciation for education, engages students in their own pathways to learning, and fosters a sense of belonging. All students participate in Crew, which builds relationships and promotes teamwork.
What makes our school unique is our partnership with Andre Marcel and WDKX. Other valuable partnerships include Foodlink, the Bar Association, Advantage Federal Credit Union, and the Center for Youth.
Outside the classroom, our students have the opportunity to participate in various activities, including podcasting via WDKX, mock trials, and field trips, including college visits. Our students also have the chance to develop their athletic abilities through our modified sports programs. Our future teams include football, volleyball, basketball, and our undefeated soccer team.
At Andrew Langston Middle School, we are the Tigers. That stands for Togetherness, Integrity, Growth, Excellence, Respect, and Strength. These Tiger traits are celebrated each month in an assembly, where students are recognized for their accomplishments.

How to apply
School Profiles, Digital Magazine, and Open House Events
School profiles are a great place to start learning about the many unique school offerings in the Rochester City School District. Each profile offers a detailed overview of each school or program to help you decide what offering is right for your child. For students entering middle or high school next year, there is a digital magazine to explore your options. Have your child talk to your school’s counselor for information about open houses this winter and spring. To learn more about school selections or to view the magazine, please visit www.rcsdk12.org/schoolselection.
School Zones
The Rochester City School District is separated into three school zones based on different areas of the City of Rochester: Northeast, Northwest, and South. When applying, families have the option of choosing a citywide school or a school within their zone. You can begin an online application and enter your home address to find out what zone you live in and what schools are available for your child to attend. Online applications can be started and saved, allowing families to return and explore options within their zone.
