School mission
At Dr. Freddie Thomas Middle School (DFTMS), the Wolfpack community lives by a shared mission/ vision: to empower students to be leaders and advocates for positive change. This commitment comes to life by cultivating supportive relationships, honoring each student’s unique identity and strengths, and promoting a sense of curiosity and joy in learning.
Students can explore their interests through a thriving modified sports program, including girls’ flag football, coed track and field, and more. There is also a growing music program that encourages creativity and expression. There are numerous clubs including, but not limited to, Cheer, Chess, and Reading. At DFTMS, every student is valued, challenged, and supported as they build the skills and confidence to lead and use their voice productively both in school and beyond.
DFTMS offers an accelerated program that allows 8th-grade students to earn up to three and five high school credits in Algebra, Geometry, Biology, U.S. History, and Spanish, setting them on a strong path to future success. The school proudly supports and celebrates a diverse student body, with more than 15 languages spoken across its community.

Learn about your school options
School Profiles, Digital Magazine, and Open House Events
School profiles are a great place to start learning about the many unique school offerings in the Rochester City School District. Each profile offers a detailed overview of each school or program to help you decide what offering is right for your child. For students entering middle or high school next year, there is a digital magazine to explore your options. Have your child talk to your school’s counselor for information about open houses this winter and spring. To learn more about school selections or to view the magazine, please visit www.rcsdk12.org/schoolselection.
School Zones
The Rochester City School District is separated into three school zones based on different areas of the City of Rochester: Northeast, Northwest, and South.
