School mission

The mission of Exploration Elementary Charter School for Science and Technology (Exploration) is to engage students, their families, and the community in the processes of scientific inquiry and the use of innovative technology to develop the social, emotional, and academic tools necessary to thrive in school and in today’s interconnected world.
The vision of the Exploration is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to grow and problem solve, giving them the resources to lead and succeed in the school and the community at large.
To strengthen and empower our school community, students are offered academic, social, and life skills through various projects, using traditional and non-traditional methodologies and technological enhancements. Through the use of tools such as project-based learning (PBL), this school and its partners provide students with unique educational opportunities that empower students to create positive environments, and to have the necessary tools for continued educational success.

Key dates & Deadlines

Families are encouraged to complete an application to participate in the School Choice Lottery on or before the deadline.

Charter school applications are accepted all year. Parents are encouraged to apply by the lottery deadline (April 1 each year) when schools have the most openings.

There are no tests or entrance fees for charter schools and names are drawn at random by a computer program. Charters accept students in special education programs, those who have IEPs and students who are English language learners.

All K-12 students are encouraged to apply to as many schools as they want. Applying to more than one school doesn’t help or hurt your chances of enrollment.

After the lottery has been drawn, students will either be given an enrollment offer or be added to school waitlists. Students may receive offers from more than one school. Parents should expect to hear from schools within one week after the deadline.

Applications received after April 1 are put on a waitlist, and schools will notify you as openings become available.

How to apply

Charter schools are not bound by attendance zone boundaries set by the Rochester City School District, enabling students living within the Rochester area to apply without any limitations.

School Choice is Your Choice! To apply now, visit: www.GoodSchoolsRoc.org. For assistance with the GoodSchoolsRoc Application Portal, please call the HelpLine at 585-491-9777.

Through GoodSchoolsRoc.org, parents and guardians of children in grades K-12 can apply to up to 16 charter schools in 28 locations through one simple online application. The application is free and accessible in English and Spanish on any web-enabled device. Applying only takes a few minutes.
